Is blowing yourself up considered last resort of a defeatist?

Is blowing yourself up like Muslim terrorists and Japanese Kamikazes considered last resort of a feeble defeated person or army? Why else would you commit suicide bombing if not a sign of giving up by blowing yourself up?
